These four works by Australian born artist, James Peele (1846-1905) are returned to New Zealand from a United Kingdom collection of antipodean art. Peele was a member of the Victorian Society of Artists and taught in Melbourne and Adelaide. During the New Zealand summers Peele returned time and again to paint the West Coast Sounds. He died in Christchurch. Exhibited OAS and CSA 1881-87, NZ Industrial Ex Wellington 1885, Centennial Ex, Melbourne 1888-89, St. Louis Exposition 1904. Represented: CSA, Hocken, and National Library of Melbourne.
