An Artweek Auckland installation to be exhibited in our window at 202 Parnell Road 8-16 October but offered for sale by auction 12 October.

The visual story Teresa HR Lane presents directly references her living experiences. Whilst she is an active participant, she also plays the role of observer, documenting the human form, celebrating the ordinary, and recognising the humorous and often perverse ways we interact with others.

B(v) = (n-1/1)v The theorem of how to harness auction fever delves into the swirling emotions of the art auction floor - a passionate marketplace where the joy of the buyer's elation is juxtaposed with the lament of those that missed out. Lane's work examines the inflammatory nature of desire and captures the scent of competitive arousal. As she questions, Am I important?, this emerging artist has decided - in the spirit of auction fever - to let the audience arbitrate the value of her work. She encourages bidders to examine their motives, asking them to consider whether the purchase is driven by taste, trend, risk, or simply a desire to own something unique that other people want. Her work will be go under the hammer unreserved, a 'market is never wrong' approach that encourages a direct value comparison with the work of the other New Zealand artists in the auction against significant New Zealand artists, as she encourages the buyer to decide value.
