MADONNA AND CHILD

Here one sees a traditional formal Madonna and Child in the early Russian style of icon. The Madonna has an impassive but loving face as she holds her infant.

In this period the Christ Child was depicted as looking older and holding a prayer scroll in his left hand. These symbolise his early wisdom, and his cares for the world. I have added pearls to the two halos which further enhance the vibrant yet restrained colours of the Russian icons.
