Henryk Szydlowski Mon, 29 May 2017
A contemporary torch bearer for Kandinsky, Picasso and Miro, Henryk Szydlowski works with patterns and geometrics creating colourful and harmonic masterworks, large and small. A 1976 graduate of Krakow's Academy of Fine Arts, Szydlowski's latest works reflect four decades of artistic endeavour from studios in Poland, New Zealand and Australia.
The world of Szydlowski is inhabited with stripped trees, puppet-like people and messenger birds communicating in a realm of rich colour and shimmering glazes. Symbolic references to New Zealand sometimes feature in the artist's work which resonates with high energy. These are paintings which intrigue and lift the spirits at every contemplation.
