Alice Whyte taught at Elam between 1905 and 1908 where she met her husband Norman Whyte. In 1930 Alice returned to Elam as a student of John Weeks, an artist and friend she had tutored over two decades earlier. Whyte was a popular and regular exhibitor at the Auckland Society of Arts between 1920 and 1952. Her work was included in Wellington's 1940 National Centennial Exhibition.
