Important, Early & Rare Paintings
Entries close in just over a week for our biggest auction event of the year - 'Important, Early & Rare' 28 July. We are anticipating a major catalogue of National Interest to both Historic & Contemporary collectors.
The extensive catalogue features numerous highlights including Charles F Goldie's 'The Centenarian', 1915 once held in the collection of one of New Zealand's leading criminal advocates, the late Alfred Charles Hanlon (1866 - 1944) of Dunedin and on the market for the first time. A never before seen Charles Decimus Barraud featuring an historic 1856 view of Wellington and a selection of 19th Century watercolours by Alfred Sharpe, J B C Hoyte & George O'Brien from prominent collector who has recently sold his Wellington residence will also be of interest to collectors of historical paintings. The catalogue includes an extensive range of works from all periods of New Zealand art, including some quality contemporary works and this time a selection of Foreign pictures, Lucein Pissarro, Lionel Edwards & Sir WIlliam Russell Flint. A section devoted to some of New Zealand's leading landscape regionalists such as the late Douglas Badcock (1922-2009), Canterbury's A A Deans & Otago's Colin Wheeler and a magnificent watercolour by the late Peter McIntyre (1910-1995) will also be of interest. Rare works by R N Field, Rita Angus, George French Angus (an early lithograph), J C Richmond, Kees Bruin and works from the Maud Sherwood Family Collection add to an interesting mix. Three works by Sydney Lough Thompson have also been consigned as have a selection of unseen 19th works recently repatriated from the United Kingdom.
