View to Waitangi, Tapeka Point
107 x 183 cm
Simon Williams travels north to Tapeka Point and is rewarded with spectacular views to Paihia and Waitangi and an inspiring subject worthy of his attention.Tapeka Point is a major landmark consisting of a large hill whose sheer height affords a perfect natural lookout. Early French explorer, Marion du Fresne, aptly named it the Point of Currents and in this painting we see a yacht with wind-filled sails, making the most of local conditions. The point also provides an excellent vantage for dolphin and orca spotting.
A recent golden summer sees the artist embrace a register of elevated colour, one that does justice to nature's palette. Ever the accomplished impressionist, Simon Williams paints with an inimitable sense of style - a style so well suited to portraying the New Zealand landscape.
