Turi Park - Major New Work Tue, 04 Sep 2012
This major oil by Wellington based artist Turi Park is currently on view in the gallery. Of this work entitled Interstate, the artist says:
"Interstate is a continuation of earlier works, concerned with the quality of light entering the darkness at the edge of the pockets of native forest. This painting looks out into the soft blue dawn light. From a few metres inside a precious stand of Nikau , our only uniquely native palm, just north of Paraparumu on the Kapiti coast.
A few metres outside the forest canopy, cars and trucks hurtle passed on State Highway 1. With the slipstream of trucks, all the palm fronds ruffle and swish like feathers in the wind. This is a place of transition. Human straight lines and speed, versus the slow, deep meanderings of natural chaos. Just before dawn, you can watch the world unfolding and opening for the day. This painting is about watching our world go by, from the view point of the natural world".
A magnificent large scale work by this artist entitled 'Tributary' will be offered in the forthcoming La Pearla exhibition 25 October - 7 November
