Another Great Auction at International Art Centre Fri, 27 Jul 2012
Last nights auction confirmed the premium end of the New Zealand art market is performing well - $218,000 was bid for the late Sir Peter Siddell's 'Opening', easily the highest price paid for a work by the artist. Other highlights included $173,000 for Don Binney's Ahu Ahu and another work by the artist made $108,000. A rare and early work by Goldie achieved $183,000 - Study of Still Life was a well documented and extensively exhibited work.
Other highlights included a record $18,800 for a Vera Cummings with two other works by the artist also performing well.
Raymond Ching's 'Gold Rush' made $57,000 and other works by Ching were also eagerly contested - 'Goshawk', a somewhat iconic watercolour of the 1970s made $25,000 and North Island Saddblebacks from the same period fetched $21,000 - A total of $150,000 work of this artist's work was sold on the night.
Works form the estate of Adele Younghusband fared well with all three works selling for a combined total of around $20,000. A Lois White sketch estimated at 3,000 - 5,000 made $8,200 - All three Edward Fristroms sold well ranging in price from $5,100 up to $11,700
Two works by Peter McIntyre made $17,000 and 18,300 with a sketch achieving $3,400.
All up an excellent result with some works still in negotiation and a sale total close to 1.5 million
